LIFE IN TENNESSEE

Moving to Tennessee was tough for Hayden because he had lived in Colorado his entire life.  When I chose this neighborhood, I was thrilled to learn there were many friends the same age as Hayden. My intent was to show Hayden "the good stuff" Tennessee offers such as ponds and lakes, trees galore, and lightning bugs.  He also enjoyed meeting family members and catching a glimpse of where Thomas and I began our marriage and decision to start a family. Life is so much more fun with Hayden! I have enjoyed seeing Tennessee through his eyes.

Hayden learned fishing is not his favorite sport because he prefers much more action. He hasn't mastered the skill of casting the line of a fishing pole; so he would rather suck pollen from honeysuckles and look for bugs and animals on walking trails.

We have big plans for the summer! The season started with a beach party at Chick Fil A and neighborhood popsicle party! We spent a day swimming; and we found treasures at local yard sales and the Downtown Market.  What fun to eat supper on the deck and stay outside until dark! 

I enjoy playing with the new Stampin' Up! catalog products, while Hayden creates an art project or Lego creation. There is always something fun to do...if we take the time to explore! It may be long and hot; but this summer will be filled with fun memories for our family...guaranteed!

I think Hayden is enjoying life in Tennessee!  Just wait until he attends local summer camps, Vacation Bible School, and travels to the beach for the FIRST TIME!  Thanks to the Stampin' Up! My Digital Studio program, I will be able to scrapbook efficiently and quickly!

Teachers...Thanks A Million

The final days of first grade have been BUSY!  Hayden and I have been taking pictures; creating his grade level scrapbook; celebrating his summer birthday with classmates; and much more!

Hayden helped me create these thank you cards for the teachers and staff members he felt made the biggest difference this year.  We used retiring star die cuts and the BRAND NEW Apothecary Accents Framelits (available June 1).  The Word Play stamp set, embossing folders, and cardstock (Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Basic Black, Whisper White) were also used to create these cards. 

Hayden wrote his messages on pieces of notebook paper, so he could correct any mistakes before adhering them inside each card.  This was written to his assistant principal.

He personalized each note with comments to share what he will remember most about each teacher, such as "Math Queen" or "Eat Pizza."

His first grade teacher may move to fifth grade; so she might reserve a seat for him again in a few years.  I am grateful for her talent for teaching math in ways Hayden truly understands. She shared her love of the subject and made it fun and easy, while giving her student confidence to succeed.

Mother's Day for a Minute

When I created this page, I was living in a brief moment of happiness. As most mothers do, I had hope for a wonderful week. Parent conferences, phone calls, and office referrals became my reality.

This is WHY I SCRAPBOOK.

Life has plenty of challenges and pity parties.  Should we document the good, the bad, and the ugly in our family scrapbooks?  Do we paint pictures of perfect lives? It is your choice.

I scrapbook and document life's happy moments because I personally want to celebrate the small things.  I prefer to look at my life and take note of the goodness and sweetness offered as hope for more.  Hayden's karate instructor taught his students to be "good finders." 

• Content for my scrpabooks are MY CHOICE. I am in control.
• Scrapbooking is therapeutic and a reminder of how good life can be. I personally don't choose to dwell on the negative for years to come.
  
• Scrapbook layouts are memories for children. I want Hayden to remember his strengths and build on them.  The content can be considered "positive reinforcement" of behaviors to continue.
• * Traditions are passed down to generations through scrapbook documentation.
• *Digital scrapbooking is instant gratification. The four layouts, shared this week, were all created in little over an hour. When I created pages with traditional materials, much more time and money was required.  I can easily print the pages for my scrapbook; email and share with family instantly; or create an entire book for Stampin' Up! to print, bind, and ship for me.

CUBS T-BALL TEAM

With two full weeks of games behind us, we are officially understanding T-ball rules and requirements.

I volunteered as Team Mom because the coach is spread thin with double duties as coach and mother to two players.  With every games, the players become better behaved and patient in the dug out.  The cheer loud and proud for the teammates; and they learned the routine of using their bags as lockers.

They follow the batting order and seating.  Larger batting helmets and playing catcher have been exciting for the kids.  I will admit to exhaustion at times, but I enjoy seeing the growth and discipline improve.

Easter Scrapbook Layout Share

Easter week/weekend was filled with fun for Hayden.  Four-day school weeks are always wonderful; and learning more about Jesus was enjoyable as Hayden appreciated the musical story of Maundy Thursday.

Good Friday included a visit to Nashville to visit Honey.  Uncle Edward pulled Hayden's loose tooth to finally allow the pushy new tooth room to grow.

The Tooth Fairy brought Hayden money and a surprise Hot Wheels car before we left for the ball field.  Saturday marked the Opening Ceremonies for T-ball and baseball teams.  Hayden hit the ball each time to bat; and I stayed busy in the dugout with all the team Cubbies.  We learned lessons on using baseball bags to store supplies, clearly labeling equipment, sitting in batting order, and cheering for teammates.

Hayden awoke in the wee hours of Easter morning to Sammy barking as the Easter Bunny left.  Hayden was thrilled to receive a basket of treats.  He had asked for new markers, crayons, and candy.  What a surprise to receive much more!  The hollow chocolate baseball bunny was his favorite!

Following Sunday School, Hayden chewed a cough drop during worhsip service. The hard cough drop caused another tooth to bleed. We left our seats for the bathroom, where I pulled his other front top tooth. "All he wants for Easter afternoon are his two front teeth..."  We returned to service, and he couldn't stop flashing his new toothless grin.

We joined family for lunch and fun.  The grandchildren enjoyed the Rice Krispy treat nests, egg hunt, play room, see saw, basketball court, scavenger hunts, role playing, and sand box. 

I loved catching up with my cousins and not having to worry about the weather or micheivous Hayden.  For the first time I can ever remember, I didn't want to leave the moment. The calm and joy were wonderful.  God is SO GOOD.

MEMBERSHIP FOR HAYDEN AND ME

My Digital Studio sure makes scrapbooking quick and easy!  Although I am not "current" on scrapbooking all family events and special memories, I can say I have documented several events in less than a month. 

When I actually add journaling, titles, backgrounds, and embellishments to special photo memories; the events are preserved for us and future generations.

Joining our church was the most important decision we have made in several months. Since our first visit, I didn't have to plead with Hayden to get dressed and ready to attend Sunday School and worship.  He is motivated and excited about learning about Jesus and seeing his Christian buddies. Hayden loves to sing hymns, pray, and recite The Lord's Prayer each week.  The children's sermon and children's church time are his favorite within the hour.  Growing closer to God  has been wonderful with Hilldale United Methodist Church.

Thanks...Thinking of You...Two More Weeks

""Thanks" and "thinking of you" themes are what I seem to need more for my cards lately.  Inspiration for this card came from demonstrator, Jennifer Picard.  These cards were created using FREE Sale-A-Bration suppplies: Fresh Vintage stamp set, Designer Frames Textured Impressions Embossing Folders, and Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper.  There are only TWO WEEKS remaining for the Sale-A-Bration savings.  It is not too late to schedule a workshop, catalog party or private class.  With spring break happening, NOW is a great time to plan time for crafting with fellow teachers, friends, and family. 

April and May are packed with fun occasions for crafting! Tuxedo Time!

Our family tradition continued this year as Hayden dressed in a tuxedo as my annual valentine gift.  This act of kindness and tolerance means so much to me.  Seeing my son dressed nicely is a proud moment; and I enjoy seing his growth and maturity throughout his young life.

Sammy & Sally pups reached their first birthdays; and they were determined to join the photo fun.  This was not surprising because I snap photos of all three of my "children" regularly (at least 3-4 times per week).  The pups do not miss much that happens around our home and neighborhood--always into the action (or making it happen)!

Can you tell how much I enjoy using the My Digital Studio program and downloads?  This layout share is my FOURTH digital project this week!  After my recent computer crash, I am unable to access my photo editing software, so this pup picture will have to work for now.

Hayden brought a fun birthday gift for Austin's 6th birthday; and I surprised his parents with a set of 12 thank you cards/envelopes.

This family has meant so much to us, since we arrived in Clarksville. Mom, Heather, cares for our pups when needed; shares magazine subscriptions; exchanges parenting advice; listens to my woes; offers to watch Hayden; serves as my "afternoon bus stop buddy"; and motivates me as my walking partner. I created this simple set of cards as a tiny token of my great appreciation for their friendship, care, and support. 

We are grateful to see God at work as He sends us exactly what we need.

Crazy, Busy Weekend!

Our weekends are usually relaxing with few tasks or events; but THIS weekend was a WILD ONE!  We started with a Chuck E. Cheese birthday party on Saturday morning.  Hayden helped Austin celebrate his 6th birthday with pizza, tokens, party cups, balloons, birthday crown, more tokens, cupcakes, fun with friends, and gifts galore!

The beautiful weather inspired us to enjoy "free admission" to the Clarksville Customs House Museum.  Hayden was most interested in the gift shop pet iguana.  I managed to distract him with the museum train display, sports hall of fame, and Words of Women exhibit.  We look forward to seeing the museum rennovations next month.

Our Saturday evening continued by changing the clock time to spring forward an hour before the week begins.  Hayden enjoyed Lego play time before bed.

Sunday morning began with church service.  Hayden's favorite part is Children's Church; and I am most encouraged by the sermon.  Jodi delivered a meaningful message to start our week. 

Our afternoon continued with a fast lunch with friends; Ms. Jennifer,  Preston, and Marshall.  We enjoyed seeing "The Lorax" at the Governor's Square Mall Carmike Cinema. Ms. Jennifer treated the boys to movie snacks and candy at Mr. Bulky before we shopped a few minutes.

A short outdoor playtime was enjoyed before we returned to end our weekend at church.  I attended a class, while Hayden played with friends. 

Although we were extremely busy, the weekend was a fun break from normal.  I didn't finish any chores or projects, but I truly enjoyed my time with Hayden.  In fact, the fun weekend inspired me to create a scrapbook layout to preserve our fun.

St. Patrick's Day & New Downloads

Daylight Savings time and St. Patrick's Day are two fun occasions we celebrate this week.  Hayden enjoys the longer days of sunlight; and he falls fast asleep from the exhaustion of playing outside after school.

St. Patrick's Day is not a hugely celebrated holiday at our house.  We do recognize the occasion by reading the history, wearing green, and eating green foods for fun.  Stampin' Up! released this download for the My Digital Studio program or any other photo editing program.  I plan to use this image for our memory this weekend.

14th Birthday Scrapbook Page

When time is limited for printing photos, gathering supplies, and creating scrapbook pages; I turn to Stampin' Up!'s My Digital Studio program. LOVE IT!!!

I created this layout in less than thirty minutes! Time would have been less with no interruptions or changing my mind for the stamp choice. Digital layouts contain depth, embellishments, photo cropping, and other methods of traditional paper scrapbooking.  Sometimes I prefer digital scrapbooking because I can easily type directly on the photos and don't have photo printing time and expense.  I created my own patterned paper with Pretty in Pink cardstock, Soft Suede ink, and a fun font.  Now, the page can be shared with family and friends online and later printed to preserve in a scrapbook to cherish.

Another demonstrator's design inspired my swap card for our March meeting.  I created more than twenty of this design, and the assembly process was easy...once the pieces were prepared to adhere.

I found myself in the mood for a masculine theme; and I like the subtle texture created with the embossing folders and Big Shot.

Happy Birthday, Jayce!

My niece, Jayce, turns fourteen today!  Time sure flies faster every time I see her. She has fully entered her teen years, and we are thankful for her intelligence and level head.

She will celebrate with friends and Mexican dinner, followed by a garage dance party.  A disco ball, loud music, and silly giggles will fill their fun evening. I doubt there will be much sleeping on Saturday night. 

I decided a moveable card was appropriate for this occasion.  The color scheme represents Jayce's favorite color; and it is personalized and made just for her.

What a Weekend! Decorating, Legos, Baseball, and More!

This weekend brought beautiful weather.  We decorated for Easter and spring and played outside.  Hayden was inspired to create a few decorations of his own: Slime Monster, Ketchup Monster, and Mustard Monster.

I gathered Easter 3-D projects to fill my studio classroom tree.  The "star" is also known as a designer series paper pinwheel, courtesy of my dear friend, Angela Sylvester.  "Ornaments" are project swaps, class and club samples, and craft fair creations.  I will admit to enjoying the corner glow as I walk downstairs to create in the evenings.

I also created a few Sale-A-Bration card displays to brighten the basement.  These samples are courtesy of project swaps with demonstrators we often share with local area stampers and friends.

Tee ball registration and errands filled Saturday.  Sunday began and ended with church as we attended class and worship in the morning.  Dinner and a small group class prepared us for this wonderful week.

Spring Banner

Spring seems to come a few days and go for a week.  Rain pours in spirts and thunder rocks our house.  Although I can't control the weather, I can definitely welcome spring inside my studio.  Sale-A-Bration designer series papers and the Fresh Vintage stamp set were a great start to my Spring Banner design.

First, I cut eight Lucky Limeade cardstock in 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" pieces.  I stamped tone on tone (Lucky Limeade ink and cardstock) the flower from the FREE Fresh Vintage stamp set on each paper.  I cut a triangle from the bottom center and used the bone folder to create a curl at the end of each piece of the banner.

The largest Labels framelit and FREE Elementary Elegance designer series paper formed the second layer of the banner design.  The Scallop Oval frame was cut with Pool Party cardstock and embossed with the Elegant Lines textured impressions embossing folder.  Very Vanilla cardstock and the Simple Alphabet Letters dies were used to create the letters on each oval, to form the word "spring" for the banner.

Flowers were created with Poppy Parade designer series paper and the Fun Flowers Bigz L die.  More flowers were cut with Very Vanilla cardstock that was stamped with the flower from the FREE Fresh Vintage stamp set to create a background design.  Flower pieces were layered to create a design at the top or bottom of each banner piece.  A rhinestone was placed in the center of each flower.

Each end of the banner features the Elegant Bird die cut with Poppy Parade designer series paper.  The paper was crumbled, unfolded, and adorned with a rhinestone for the bird's eye. 

The banner was tied with FREE Everyday Enchantment/Calypso Coral  1/8" Organdy Ribbon.
