School is back in session, and my days are completely consumed with educating a fabulous group of fifth graders! I truly love them ALL!
At times, my students will test boundaries. I created this behavior chart using the My Digital Studio program. Each student is assigned a number written on a clothespin. When the student make a good choice, the clip is moved up the chart. Bad choices result in moving down the chart. I have found the chart to be very effective in motivating student choices and to receive an immediate consequence. As they walk to the chart, class continues and the students can think about making better choices.
When I made the decision to return to teaching, I knew a complete make over was necessary. I am pleased to announce I began the school year, fourty pounds lighter!
My priorities have been to focus on improving my spiritual, physical, and emotional life. The emotions are the toughest to tame; so I am blessed with the generosity, understanding, care, and comfort shared by my family and friends.
If you haven't made the effort to thank one of your previous teachers, it is not too late! You could also volunteer, donate items to the wish list, offer to organize, or simply send a card to a current teacher.
I had forgotten the attention to detail and every procedure, question, and comment that is required for teachers. Grading papers, analyzing student data, planning a sub folder, organizing station kits, writing lesson plans, learning the newest trends in education, and collaborating with faculty are only a few of the many responsibilities we face. When someone reminds me that I am lucky to have weekends, holidays, snowdays, and summer vacation; I will remind them of the 12-15 hour work days I face.
The power of prayer helps me face everyday. God is SO good! My students and teacher teammates are incredible! I love going to work everyday! It is the coming home to endless tasks that wears on me. Once I can clear the cobwebs and reink some classic pads; all my stress will fade! Stamping and scrapbooking are therapy for the weary. My goal is to make time for the little things. Crafting soothes my soul and fades any stress or sorrow; so I challenge you to join me in stamping a project this weekend. I'll show you my project...if you'll show me yours! LOL
